Bob Olson, a Hancock businessman, is the "Dean of Broadcasters in all of college hockey". The Legendary Bob Olson was the radio voice of the Michigan Tech Huskies for over 30 years 1970-2000. His radio station, WMPL radio in Hancock, Mich, has served as the "clearinghouse for college hockey scores each and every night the game is played for two decades".   The WCHA honored Olson with a Distinguished Service Award in 1997. Bob is a member of the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame. There is an annual Bob Olson Award at Michigan Tech for the Top Newcomer.

Brooks Olson, born 19-- in Hancock? played Houghton High School hockey, then went on to play for the Metro Jets Jr B team. He has now returned home to the Copper Country to play with the Finlandia University Division III team.

Ryan Olson, born 1983 in Hancock? played Houghton High School hockey where he was a member of the All-Lake Superior Conference First Team and Michigan All-State Team, then played for the same squad as teammate Brad VanTassel, the Northwest Knights, a Junior B team in the Minnesota Invitational Hockey League (MIHL). He scored 32 goals and 34 assists for the Knights that year then went on to play for the Texarkana Bandits, a Junior A team in the North American Hockey League. In his 72 games with them, he tallied 15 goals and 16 assists and was the team Captain. He has now returned home to the Copper Country to play with the Finlandia University Division III team in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA).

Derek Onkalo, born 19-- in -- played for Houghton High School, now plays for Finlandia University 2003-.
